The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has come under fire for its controversial recommendations regarding transgender treatments for children. According to a letter from 20 state attorneys general, the AAP’s guidelines are driven not by medical science but by left-wing political ideology, Joy Pullman reports in The Federalist. This is a damning accusation that exposes the troubling influence of politics in our medical institutions, particularly when it comes to vulnerable children.

The AAP’s claim that puberty blockers are “reversible” is particularly alarming. Medical research, including the UK’s Cass Report, has shown that these treatments are far from reversible. The long-term effects include damage to brain development, bone density, and overall metabolic health. And yet, the AAP continues to promote these procedures as safe, misinforming parents and doctors alike. This is not just a betrayal of trust; it may be a violation of state consumer protection laws, which require honesty in the promotion of medical products and services.

The AAP’s recommendations appear to be based not on sound medical judgment but on the activist agenda of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Internal documents from WPATH reveal a shocking disregard for medical rigor, with members admitting they often improvise treatments. Worse, Biden administration officials, like Rachel Levine, have pushed to remove age restrictions on risky procedures such as double mastectomies for girls as young as 12.

This is the ugly truth: left-wing politics are now dictating medical care for children, putting ideology above health and safety. Most children with gender dysphoria eventually accept their biological sex without invasive treatments. Yet, the AAP and the Biden administration continue to push dangerous and irreversible procedures on kids. This isn’t just bad medicine—it’s a betrayal of our duty to protect the most vulnerable among us.
