24/7 Wall Street reviewed excessive drinking rates in 381 metro areas in the United States to identify the top 20 drunkest cities. The top 4 drunkest cities last year in the US are Green Bay, Eau Claire, Appleton, and Madison. Wisconsin has a total of 10 cities on the 20 drunkest cities list. Researchers say there is no clear answer as to why the state is full of heavy drinkers, though some attribute it to cheap alcohol prices and brutal winters.
Like many others in our state, I’m not proud about Wisconsin’s representation on this list. Researchers can speculate the reasons for our state’s excessive drinking, but we know families have a huge influence on alcohol use. One of the best ways to start changing this list is to have more children growing up with their married dad and mom who set a good example regarding alcohol.
