A recent study from Lancet projects that 95% of countries will reach sub-replacement fertility rates by 2100, and that pro-natal policies will increase fertility rates by just .2%–a far cry from the necessary bump most nations need to reach the requisite 2.1 rate. Several nations have tried to incentivize childbirth, but those methods rarely make a difference because the underlying issue is that younger generations don’t view raising children as a main priority in their lives.
The root cause of declining birth rates is a lack of a pro-life culture that celebrates marriage, family, and children as a common good. We need to create a culture that sees raising a family as fulfilling life’s greatest calling, rather than as an inconvenience or a roadblock to pursuing worldly happiness or secular success. Children are a blessing, not a hindrance!
