Title Town Times reports that Wisconsin legislators are looking to limit a governor’s authority over what flags can be flown on government properties. The legislature has two bills that would restrict which flags can be flown on government properties, aiming to prevent politically charged displays. Both proposals would limit flag displays to the U.S. flag and Wisconsin state flag with exceptions for the official POW/MIA flag and the official flags of each branch of the U.S. armed forces. One bill allows for additional flags to be approved through legislative votes.

Proponents of these bills are correct – government buildings should be symbols of unity, not political division. Flying flags above government buildings is a distinct honor that should not be bestowed upon divisive political movements. The so-called Pride Flag is a perfect example of such a flag and has no business flying over our state capitol in June.
