On Wednesday, the US Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Skrmetti that a Tennessee law prohibiting surgeries and hormone therapies for minors dealing with gender confusion does not violate the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. This landmark ruling upholds the right of every state to pass laws, generally called Help Not Harm laws, that protect children from the irreversible harm of so-called “gender-affirming” care. Twenty-five states have already passed Help Not Harm legislation protecting children.
This decision is a huge win. A child should never be the subject of experimentation. Every state that has not enacted Help Not Harm legislation, including Wisconsin, should do so immediately. The Assembly has passed Wisconsin’s Help Not Harm bill; the Senate needs to pass the bill and get it to the governor, who has called this the year of the kid. He should prove it by signing this bill.
