I don’t know about you, but my family is a huge fan of games. And no, contrary to pop-culture, I’m not talking about video games. If our boys aren’t reading or outside doing boy things (of sometimes-questionable safety), they are often found inside with any number of board games, card games, or puzzles covering some inconvenient surface. One of our favorites right now is a vintage Parker Brothers game called “The Inventors.” It’s a simple game where collecting the most money is the object, but unlike other similar games, this one focuses exclusively on patents, investments, royalties, and a series of very wacky inventions.

The game may be simple in its play, but the profound lesson surely isn’t! Learning isn’t done simply through textbooks and back-to-school supplies. As a parent or grandparent, I’m sure you agree that we are trying to build up a culture of young Americans who know our past and why it matters, who understand basic things like their citizenship responsibilities and the founding documents that outline them. As you put together your back-to-school supplies for the upcoming year, let me encourage you to go outside-the-box on books to make sure your kids are learning about things like inventions and patents that they may not be taught at school. I’ll do better than that: let Phyllis Schlafly Eagles kick-start your intellectual property collection for free!

Phyllis Schlafly understood how our Constitution’s engine of intellectual property rights was what unleashed the productivity, creativity, and prosperity of America. We have collected several of her core writings on this topic in the book “Phyllis Schlafly Speaks: Volume 4, Patents and Invention” and I want to send you a free copy. Send us an email at info@phyllisschlafly.com or call today to 1-314-721-1213 and we will mail you a free book!
