Last week, Texas legislators introduced a bill that would give individuals the right to sue abortion providers for harm and wrongful death resulting from the abortion pill. LifeSite News reports that the bill also aims to deter the unlawful distribution of abortion pills in Texas. Currently, Texas has banned abortion except in special cases. After mail-order abortion pills were legalized in 2023, it became nearly impossible for states to enforce abortion bans. Texas pro-life activists have expressed hope that the new law will help put an end to illegal abortions.
Our current Wisconsin law has no provision for suing abortion providers for the adverse effects of the abortion pill even though a recent report found that 1 in 10 women using the drug are harmed. It’s time to hold abortion providers across the country accountable for how these drugs that are designed to kill unborn babies are also hurting women.
