The National Education Association’s (NEA) 2025 Representative Assembly was a disgraceful spectacle, sidelining students to wage a petty war against President Trump. This teachers’ union had the gall to prioritize “fighting Trump” over fixing the catastrophic decline in student reading and math scores. When a brave teacher dared suggest focusing on literacy, they were shut down with a sneering, “We don’t have time for that!” Unbelievable, but par for the course to any who are familiar with this organization.
NEA President Becky Pringle’s unhinged rant, screaming about “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” whipped the crowd into a frenzy, as if chanting slogans fixes failing schools. The union’s New Business Items were a slap in the face to every parent and student: anti-Trump protests, defying Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and whining about the Department of Education’s potential demise. Not one shred of effort to help kids read or write better. It’s an outrageous betrayal American children and parents.
The NEA’s $3 billion in teacher dues? Squandered on political stunts, not classrooms. Fox News’ Emily Campagno (com-PAN-yo) nailed it, calling this obsession “absolute theft” of taxpayer dollars while kids struggle to read their own names. And the cherry on top? An NEA proposal accusing Trump of “fascism” misspelled the word itself—proof these so-called educators can’t even get basics right.
Furious lawmakers, however, are fighting back. Congressman Mark Harris’s H.R. 4450 aims to yank the NEA’s 1906 congressional charter, while Sen. Marsha Blackburn is pushing a Senate companion bill. Harris slammed the NEA for morphing into a “partisan machine” peddling radical nonsense instead of supporting teachers. Moms For Liberty’s Tina Descovich was blunt: with only a third of fourth graders reading at grade level, the NEA’s political circus is a disgrace.
The Supreme Court’s recent ruling allowing the Trump Administration to gut the Department of Education—already costing over 1,300 jobs—further exposes the NEA’s declining influence. As conservative leader Corey DeAngelis points out, their unhinged agenda is free advertising for school choice. Over a million families have fled public schools for charters, private options, or homeschooling since 2019. The NEA’s obsession with politics over kids is a scandal, and parents are right to demand better.
