Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty recently filed a complaint on behalf of a Madison teacher, Kally Bishop, who was wrongfully transferred from her position at a public school. In 2021, the Madison Metropolitan School District implemented a scoring system that rates teachers in part based on their commitment to vague “culturally responsive practices,” rather than excellence. Although Bishop’s record was flawless, the district used this scoring system, that rewards teachers for favoring students of one race over another, to justify the transfer.
Students need teachers who are passionate about providing the best education possible, not teachers committed to pushing DEI initiatives. The classroom should never be a venue for racial discrimination. Madison’s system is not just wrong, it’s illegal; and those responsible should be held accountable.
