If you missed the news, Congress passed a huge bill that cuts federal funding for public broadcasting. Called a “recission” – because funding wasn’t just trimmed or cut in the future, but taken back or rescinded altogether. In fact, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has already announced its intent to close entirely. This leaves PBS television and NPR radio stations out to dry. Frankly, PBS’s left-leaning history has made it a wolf in sheep’s clothing for many years.

Though many have lamented the potential loss of educational programming, the congressional cuts to public television really are a blessing in disguise. Many parents are complaining that the tax cut will “force” them to turn to algorithm-fed streaming services such as YouTube, which feed their children nonsensical programs such as “skibidi toilet.” Parents feel that they have less control over what their children are viewing, but the real question we should be asking ourselves is why, as parents, are we choosing to allow streaming services to dictate what our children watch? As parents, we should have the ultimate say over what our children are consuming, so perhaps this is a call to push ourselves to be thoroughly involved in choosing what our children consume.

Many parents are turning to physical media to combat algorithmically fed streaming services. VHS tapes and DVDs make it much easier for parents to control what films and TV shows are coming into their home. Streaming platforms have become so pricey they are truly no longer affordable, not to mention that Silicon Valley billionares are choosing the parameters of what you and your children are watching.

Good films and shows are becoming harder to find on services such as Netflix. They load their platforms with mindless movies and shows filled with woke themes, providing only the bare minimum of classic films to stay in the running for film awards. They’re not just preying on your children, but also on you!

Physical media like VHS and DVD eradicates this issue; you’re not limited to what your streaming service limits you to choose from. You do not have to fear wholesome films and shows being “removed” from your shelf because they don’t fit the woke narrative. PBS budget cuts are a great blessing, motivating more parents and families to control what they consumed through media.
