Dr. Andrea Gurney, a professor at a Christian college in California, has started a required class: Marriage 101. Writing for Institute for Family Studies, Gurney recommends all colleges, especially Christian colleges, do the same to help young people prepare for marriage before they walk down the aisle. She says she’s seen too many young couples in her counseling office talking divorce before they are thirty—and decided something had to change, resulting in her developing and offering this unique and popular course.
Gurney’s idea makes sense, especially for Christian colleges that will give not only practical advice and information but also sound biblical teaching on God’s plan for marriage, the roles of men and women within the institution, and more. Such a class preceding strong pre-marital counseling may definitely result in godly marriages that go the distance.
