On Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Assembly dismissed a bill that would have legalized online sports betting in our state. Pro-family organizations, including Wisconsin Family Action, are celebrating this decision as a huge win for families and communities. WFA Policy Director, Sam Krebs, spoke out against this bill extensively. He argued, “The social costs [of gambling] are many because they can lead to things like family breakdown, lost productivity, and bankruptcy.”
The Assembly made the right decision dismissing this bill. The sports betting industry is bad for individuals, families, and communities. We are thankful our elected officials saw the dangers of legalizing sports betting in our state. Public policy in Wisconsin should reflect the values that will help our state thrive.
