The chairman of a Massachusetts democrat committee, Michael Hugo, advocated abortion at a Framingham City Council meeting because children with spina bifida, heart conditions and other physical challenges would be a drain on school budgets. Hugo questioned allowing a baby to be born who “had [a] sound medical reason to be terminated. Is the state going to cover the costs of special education for a Down syndrome affected child?” Because of the resultant outrage, Hugo asked a local news outlet not to run an article about his comments, claiming he made them “in haste.” Not true. An earlier email to all city council members advocated this sentiment. Hugo isn’t alone. Others share his eugenicist philosophy but aren’t as bold about it in public.
