Essentially, the UN Population Fund is asserting that surrogacy is a natural right. Rebecca Oas and Patience Griswold, in a Christian Post opinion piece, refute this, noting that, quote, “surrogacy violates the natural rights of children by dividing the person of ‘mother’ into three separate optional and purchasable roles: the genetic mother, the birth mother, and the social mother.”
Surrogacy is mostly about the wants and desires of adults. It’s not about the best interest of the child, who always suffers loss. Additionally, commercial surrogacy tragically commodifies children. This issue is especially important for Christians to think seriously and biblically about. Just because something can be done does not make it right.
