Last week, the Wisconsin Supreme Court held oral arguments in a case that concerns a rule Governor Evers and his liberal colleagues are trying to force through without legislative oversight on the topic of gender identity and professional conduct for licensed therapists and counselors. Since twenty-seventeen, Democrats have tried and failed to pass a bill to ban so-called conversion therapy. They are now asking the court to broaden executive power and diminish legislative power in order to get what they want.

The rule that pushed this to a lawsuit is an unlawful attempt to forbid counselors from disagreeing with a patient’s self-assessment of gender identity. Counselors should not be restricted in their free speech, including discussing biological realities. Likewise, Christian counselors should be free to uphold biblical convictions on sexuality without facing religious discrimination.
