A generous donation from a local chapter of the Knights of Columbus enabled the Howard Fire Station Number One to install a Safe Haven Baby Box at their facility so parents in crisis have a secure, anonymous way to surrender their baby to local authorities. Each baby box has an exterior door that locks automatically when a newborn is placed inside. An interior door allows medical personnel to promptly and securely retrieve the baby, ensuring immediate care and protection. An adoption plan is then created for the newborn.

This is the fourth Safe Haven Baby Box installed in Wisconsin, serving as a last-resort option for parents in crisis. Too many heartbreaking reports have surfaced of babies left on the side of the road, in dumpsters, and worse. If even one baby is saved through a baby box, the cost is worth it. We hope to see more of these baby boxes in facilities all across our state
