A new report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that over 22,000 babies are alive today thanks to near total abortion bans in 14 states enacted after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Experts note that these findings are especially powerful because JAMA is not a conservative or Christian publication, and is typically viewed as a fairly liberal academic journal. Their recognition of the effectiveness of pro-life laws in saving babies speaks volumes.
While Wisconsin’s ban on abortions past 20 weeks has surely saved lives, our state can do better. Every baby, from the moment of conception, is a precious and irreplaceable human being—life with potential, not potential life. Our state laws should reflect that truth and prohibit the needless destruction of babies in the womb at every stage of pregnancy.
