Center for Christian Virtue’s 2025 Hope and a Future report recently found a correlation between a high percentage of unmarried parents and violent crime rates within communities. Researchers determined that in a Ohio, a city where only 34% of parents were married, 12 times more violent crimes were committed than in a similar city with 86% of married parents. To address the sharp rise in child poverty, violence, and poor educational outcomes, states should incentivize married parents and support intact families.
Marriage as God designed it, brings glory to God and good for humankind. When married families never form or are broken, individuals and communities, states, and a nation are hurt. Lawmakers at all levels need to support policies that promote marriage and strong married-family units.
