Next Tuesday is Tax Day. As Wisconsin citizens finish filing their individual tax returns, the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee continues to wrestle with the state budget that is the plan for spending our tax dollars. Governor Evers has introduced his budget proposal for the next two years. The legislature has until June thirtieth to make final changes and pass a budget. Wisconsin families would welcome some serious tax cuts. The more money families can keep, they stronger they are; and strong families means a strong Wisconsin.
Tax season is an excellent opportunity to educate ourselves on how elected officials spend our tax dollars. It’s also a great opportunity to educate children. Understanding how state and federal taxes work will prepare kids for when they begin working and earning. Financial literacy and good stewardship are an important legacy parents can pass down to their children.
