The Menominee Indian tribe is seeking federal approval to open an off-reservation casino in Kenosha County. The plans must be approved, first, by the federal government, and then by the Wisconsin governor. In February, the tribe appeared optimistic about federal approval. The negative impact of gambling on communities—including addiction, higher crime rates, and mental health problems—will immensely impact Kenosha County.
Gambling does not support strong families and communities. The damage done to individuals and families affected by the negative consequences of gambling far outweigh any positives that some assert come with casinos. Governor Evers should oppose building this, or any additional casino in Wisconsin. We already have 26. We don’t need any more.
