Have you ever wondered why we have such a high standard of living in the United States? In America, even the poor people in our land, the people on government welfare, live better than 99% of all the people who’ve ever lived on the face of this earth. Even if you haven’t asked this question, you and I both know the answer.

The reason for our prosperity is freedom. Economic freedom, which was established in our United States Constitution. The founding fathers knew that economic freedom is an essential ingredient for our nation to grow and prosper. The freedom to own private property. The freedom to engage in the occupation of your choice, or quit that job and find another. The freedom to move about the country, to sell your products in every state in our land.

Phyllis Schlafly always knew that a unique part of this economic freedom was central to our miraculous Constitution. She said, “As part of this great economic freedom the Constitution gave to the Congress the power to encourage the progress of science and the useful arts by issuing copyrights and patents to authors and inventors, they are granted an exclusive right for a limited period of time to publish their writings or to exploit their inventive discoveries. This means that if you use your talent and energy, you can keep the results of your own labor and enjoy their fruits. The results of this system and of the right of inventors to enjoy the fruits of their own labors, has meant that most of the great inventions of the world have been invented in our country.”

Phyllis Schlafly always remembered the profound importance of patents and intellectual property! That’s why we celebrate her legacy on patents every year in Washington, D.C. Mark your calendars for May 14th, and invite your members of Congress and D.C. contacts to join us at the 9th Annual Phyllis Schlafly Patent Briefing and Dinner. Visit PhyllisSchlafly.com/Patents for all the information. That’s Phyllis Schlafly dot com, forward slash “patents.” Help us celebrate our unique American economic freedom!
