The Terri Schiavo case dominated the news media for weeks, and the liberal media loved this story. The media allowed the liberals to go on television night after night trying to defend the culture of death and the supremacy of judges over all other branches of government. One judge issued an order to starve Terri Schiavo to death, and got away with overriding all other branches of government.
The liberals objected to conservatives trying to get other branches of government to overturn Judge Greer’s inhumane decision, claiming that conservatives usually want to keep government out of family decisions. That’s right, we do. But it was Judge Greer’s order that put government in Terri’s bedroom. If it hadn’t been for his injecting himself into her bedroom, Terri would have been brought water by dozens of Good Samaritans. It was dramatic proof that the government was interfering in family decisions when the police arrested dozens of people who merely wanted to bring Terri a cup of water.
The liberals objected that conservatives tried to bypass the judge and appeal to the Governor, the state legislature, Congress and the President. That’s right: we don’t believe in judicial supremacy; other branches of government should have taken action.
The liberals criticized conservatives who are pro-family but objected to Terri’s husband making the life-or-death decision for her. We absolutely do not believe that Terri’s adulterous husband was entitled to be her guardian because he abandoned her ten years ago for another woman.
Judge Greer’s order to starve Terry Schiavo was judicial supremacy at its most arrogant. The judges overrode the governor, the legislature, Congress, the president, common sense, and the right to life. Terri Schiavo may have died for a purpose if this tragic event causes the American people to demand that Congressmen and legislators legislate to curb the powers of the out-of-control judges.
