The National Bureau of Economic Research published a report this month detailing the negative impact of divorce on children. Using tax and census data, researchers found that children with divorced parents are at an increased risk for teen births, incarceration, and mortality. As adults these individuals experience a decrease in earnings and college attendance. The Bureau recommends implementing policies that promote strong and stable married families, ensuring better outcomes for children.
Assuming Wisconsin follows the US trend, anywhere from one-third to one-half of children in our state have divorced parents. This statistic makes these negative outcomes even more alarming. Promoting and preserving God’s design for marriage and family is the most effective way to protect the next generation and thereby protect our communities, state, and nation.
