While we may think nothing from California or other deep blue states can surprise us anymore, the Colorado Democrats ready to give our worst imagination a run for its money. Liberals in the Centennial State are pushing House Bill 25-1312, one of the most extreme gender identity bills in the nation. They introduced it late on a Friday and ramrodded it to committee almost instantly, giving no time to analyze or coordinate testimony against it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s passed before we finish writing this commentary.
Known as the “Kelly Loving Act,” here’s a glimpse at what Colorado is poised to put into state law: Making so-called “deadnaming and misgendering” in public a punishable offense; stripping the rights of parents who refuse to affirm gender confusion in their children; forcing all schools public, private, charter, or otherwise to comply with laws regarding “chosen names”; disallowing judges from recognizing laws in other states that ban the chemical castration or mutilation of children.
Nothing in this bill is about protection or tolerance, and certainly not loving. It’s all about control. This is a direct attack against Colorado families, putting vulnerable kids in harm’s way and ensuring parents may lose their kids, get fined, or go to jail if they say otherwise.
If you think such tyrannical measures are only to be found in Canada and other foreign nations, now is the time to start adjusting your expectations. Despite our big wins electorally last year and even despite what appear to be cultural shifts rightward among young people, the truly despicable and even demonic forces that are out to destroy the family are alive and well in America (and apparently passing legislation through the Colorado House of Representatives).
Now is the time for Christians, conservatives, classical liberals, and even Democrats who haven’t given themselves over to the woke agenda to stand up and get very loud against what Colorado doing against the family. This bill could easily start a deluge of similar laws across the ever-deepening blue states. Now is the time to speak up and say “no.”
