Last week, the Missouri Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling that blocked the enforcement of abortion facility safety requirements in that state. These requirements include meeting basic health and safety standards, having an emergency protocol in place if complications occur, and prohibiting abortion facility staff from compelling women to have abortions. After the Supreme Court’s ruling, Missouri’s Planned Parenthood facilities shut down operations because they were unable to meet these basic safety standards.

With two of Planned Parenthood’s 21 facilities in Wisconsin, offering in-clinic, surgical abortions and a third offering medical abortions, these standards should be the bare minimum. If Planned Parenthood really cared about women, they would quit trying to revoke or tie up in court the safety standards we have in place in Wisconsin.
