Did you realize just how many things happen on the 14th of June? It’s historic! It’s patriotic! And to think that we saw it on June the 14th. No, it’s not Dr. Seuss’s birthday, but we do have a few iconic figures to discuss. First of all, June 14 is recognized as Flag Day in the United States, but you’ll need to tune in tomorrow so we can talk exclusively about Old Glory!
One of the less known, but no less important birthdays this Saturday is that of our own President Donald J. Trump, born on June 14, 1946. We could talk for days on end about changes the Trump years have brought, but one of the most important renewals I see is a return to patriotism. For many years some of our leaders have treated our “American exceptionalism” as a point of shame. Others gave patriotic lip service to our nation and the men and women who defend it, but still entangled us in foreign affairs that served no American interest. Finally, though, the Trump Era has opened the floodgates to a renewed wave of nationalism, patriotism, love of our country.
President Trump led that wave with his big, beautiful brushstrokes and that’s why it’s only fitting that he has chosen to use his 79th birthday this year to celebrate the 250th Birthday of our United States Army. That’s right! The U.S. Army, our very first authorized national fighting force, was founded by act of Continental Congress on June 14, 1775. Our Army is older than the nation itself!
To celebrate this semiquincentennial, President Trump has ordered a few thrilling additions to the already-planned demonstrations, displays, and celebrations. Now, the Army’s birthday will be capstoned by a grand military parade with thousands of soldiers, hundreds of vehicles and aircraft, and Army bands from around the country. Trump’s touches are most welcome as we celebrate this historic milestone for those who defend our freedom. So — from all of our Phyllis Schlafly Eagles families, happy birthday President Trump and happy birthday to our United States Army!
