The Wisconsin Historical Society chose not to fly the Pride Flag this June sparking disgruntled responses from LGBTQ+ advocates. The Society’s spokesperson, Colleen Lies, defended their decision stating, “As a nonpartisan agency, the Society does not participate in advocacy outside of [its] mission.” The Pride Flag has flown above the Wisconsin Historical Society every June since 2019, making this decision an important shift away from government advocacy for the LGBTQ+ agenda.
The Society’s decision is encouraging, especially as Wisconsin lawmakers consider a bill that would prevent any flag other than the US and state flags from being displayed over government buildings. Our government and government agencies should not be promoting favored ideologies and agendas.
