The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that there are between 7,500 and 9,000 massage businesses that conduct illicit activity and engage in human trafficking operations across the US. Last week, seven massage establishments were shut down in Green Bay after the city council agreed with police recommendations to deny their licensing renewal requests. A police investigation revealed the businesses were owned and operated by individuals with prior prostitution-related charges among other crimes.

Prostitution and human-trafficking are serious crimes that cause lasting damage to individuals, families, and communities. Shutting down these businesses is a major win for Green Bay and Wisconsin. Communities around the state should follow Green Bay’s lead and work to put an end to these places and their horrific criminal practices.
