It’s vital for parents to monitor not only what public schools are teaching our children, but also what they aren’t! If we are to raise our children to be engaged, patriotic citizens then they must be taught American history as it really happened, not as the left wishes it had. It’s pretty clear that our religious heritage is something the left both fears and hates more than anything else. They’d like to pretend that we’ve always been a secular nation. Public schools today have replaced real American history with a philosophy of political correctness and the dogma of diversity and individual expression.

The only way to dispel these lies and myths is to teach American kids the truth about our heritage. You really should plan a trip to Washington, D.C., to read the many religious inscriptions engraved in stone on our famous monuments, but an even easier and quicker way to start is by honoring our nation’s birthday this week by reading and rereading the Declaration of Independence with your family!

As you read it on this Independence Day, reflect on the fact that it is, as Phyllis Schlafly said, “America’s great religious document, the official affirmation by the American people of their belief and faith in God.” You’ll see that our Declaration affirms God’s existence as “self-evident,” a truth that doesn’t need any more debate or discussion. This is America started, by declaring that this nation and its inhabitants belong to Almighty Providence. Our rights are defined as God-given. The actions of the Declaration’s signers are God-inspired. For their actions, many of them were, in fact, forced to sacrifice their “lives, fortunes, and sacred honor” just as they pledged.

On this great religious holiday, let us remember our Declaration’s five distinct references to God — God as supreme Lawmaker, God as Creator of all men, God as the Source of all rights, God as the world’s supreme Judge, and God as our Protector on whom we can rely. Thanks be to God for our nation, and the rich heritage we can teach to our children!
