In a win for common sense and women across the country, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee recently updated its policy to ensure that biological men cannot compete in women’s sports. A statement from the committee’s website clarifies that ensuring fairness forces them to “rely on real data and science-based evidence rather than ideology.” After years of fighting for women’s sports, female athletes finally have fair athletic policies that recognize biological reality.
In Wisconsin, both the WIAA and the NCAA have already adopted this policy. Now, Wisconsin women athletes and women athletes across the country will have the same fairness at the Olympic level. Women need their own divisions not only to keep the competition even but also to ensure their safety. The committee’s decision is a step in the right direction.
