Last Friday, the City of Watertown opened a Safe Haven Baby Box at its new fire station, becoming the fifth Wisconsin city to participate in this life-saving program. The Safe Haven Baby Box, which is part of the Safe Haven Law, allows parents who are unable or unwilling to care for their child to anonymously place their infant in a secure, ventilated box at a hospital, fire station, or police department. The child is then turned over to Family Services for adoption. In 2023, Wisconsin added the baby box option to its original Safe Haven law.
The opening of this Safe Haven Baby Box is excellent news for the pro-life movement in our state. Baby Boxes give mothers facing crisis pregnancies the opportunity to choose life for their child without fearing judgment. We hope more communities around the state will join the movement and help save the lives of the most vulnerable.
