As AI technology advances, parents and educators have expressed concern over implementing AI in the classroom. In a recent article from the Institute for Family Studies, Professor Christos Makridis proposes a perspective shift. Rather than focus on the negatives that already exist, he argues that educators must think of AI in terms of how it can positively impact students. Makridis suggests an AI design that pushes students to become critical thinkers and AI policies that hold tech companies accountable for how their technology impacts human flourishing.

AI technology isn’t going away any time soon. With that knowledge in mind, parents and educators need to thoughtfully decide how, or if, this technology will be implemented in classrooms. Either way, as Makridis points out, we need AI programming and policies that prioritize, rather than diminish, human flourishing.
