An alarming trend has emerged in recent years, and it’s one we need to talk more about. Many young Western women of the left are converting to Islam. How is it that a strict patriarchal religion is attracting so many radically feminist women? Some are claiming the Palestine-Israel conflict drives their conversion – a desire for the “ironclad faith” they see in viral videos meant to stir support for Gaza.

But the rising number of converts may be attributed to a growing desire for tradition — an orientation toward something higher. The younger generations have grown up in the politicized culture of college campuses that teach anti-Western, anti-American ideologies. As young people are pulled in so many directions, they question who they are and what to believe in. The Palestine-Israel conflict provides these women with something to believe in and even fight for, and more than that, it is drawing them towards a religion. The breathless liberal media coverage portraying the Muslim people as people who do not lose their faith even in the face of persecution speaks directly to this generation of directionless women.

Surprisingly, modesty has also been an influence on young women for conversion to Islam. This is perhaps the most ironic of all the reasons. Feminists have pushed for so long to stop objectifying women and defining them by appearance, that now, perhaps, modesty is a solution to prevent the objectification of the female sex.

But most of all, unlike Christianity, the Muslim faith has become “socially acceptable,” giving individuals a tradition to move toward that they don’t have to fear being “canceled” for. Christianity provides the true fulfillment that young women are searching for, but it doesn’t fit the agenda of the left. Now more than ever it is important that American Christians don’t become lukewarm in their faith. Their example will lead some of these aimless young women toward the true fulfillment they long to find. Only in Christianity will they find the respect for the dignity of womanhood and the “ironclad” faith that stands the test of persecution.
