Last week, in a win for freedom of speech, the Kentucky Board of Social Work dismissed multiple complaints filed against a Christian counselor for expressing his religious beliefs on social media. According to Liberty Counsel, the counselor was fired and accused of multiple ethical violations after speaking out against the LGBTQ+ agenda. The Board dismissed the complaints and ultimately determined that voicing unpopular speech does not violate any laws or regulations.
Employers do not have the right to fire or persecute their employees for sharing unpopular opinions on social media. The First Amendment clearly protects both freedom of speech and religion, even for licensed counselors. Cases like this should encourage legislators in every state, including Wisconsin, to promote policies that strengthen our First Amendment protections.
