Institute for Family Studies recently released a statement in response to the current Administration’s executive order seeking to implement AI education in K-12 classrooms. Although the Institute recognizes the need for students to understand this technology, studies have shown that AI hinders rather than improves learning outcomes and poses significant risks for children, especially through Chatbot features. The Institute recommends caution and thoughtful consideration as educators begin implementing AI policy in K-12 schools.
The growing popularity of Artificial Intelligence does create a need for education within this field, but it should never be implemented to the detriment of students. AI policy in K-12 education should always put students first. We appreciate the Institute’s balanced recommendations and hope the Administration will follow their advice.
