State lawmakers recently introduced a bill to redefine “hemp” and protect constituents from psychoactive THC products. Although recreational marijuana use is illegal, a 2018 farming law created a provision that allows cannabinoid and other THC products to be legally created and distributed in our state, often through foods like candy. Redefining “hemp” would close the loophole that legalized these psychoactive substances.

Recreational marijuana use is illegal in our state for good reasons. Recent studies from both the CDC and the National Library of Medicine have confirmed that the use of high THC products causes addiction as well as significant health risks, including irregular brain function, heart issues, and high blood pressure. It also impairs driving, putting not only the user at risk but others.
