Genspect, an organization founded to counter the psychology field’s efforts to affirm gender confusion, recently launched a campaign they call the re-psychopathologization of transgender identities. Their goal is to, “restore transgender identities to their proper place in psychiatry–as conditions of the mind requiring careful therapeutic attention, rather than celebrating them as healthy identities.”
The organization is working to help those who suffer by countering the narrative that gender confusion is normal and sharing the truth. The psychology field needs to be held responsible in this area. Psychiatrists, like any other doctor, should be committed to doing no harm. Affirming gender confusion causes harm. True compassion starts by telling the truth in love.
