Last week, Congressman Bryan Steil from Janesville and all seven other GOP members of the Wisconsin congressional delegation wrote Governor Tony Evers asking him to end his opposition to the new federal tax credit scholarship program, which allows individuals to receive a federal tax credit for donations to a recognized Scholarship Granting Organization in a state. Qualified families can use the scholarships for many educational needs, including tuition, school supplies, support services for students with special needs, and transportation.
For families to get these scholarships, the governor has to agree to participate. What’s puzzling about his refusal, is that parents using public schools are included, in addition to those choosing private schools. Opting out means the governor is denying Wisconsin families access.
