U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) recently introduced a bill to end both taxpayer-funded gender transition surgeries and drugs for minors and most taxpayer funded abortions. According to the bill summary, it would, “amend the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to exclude coverage of gender-transition procedures for minors and abortion under health plans offered through the American Health Benefits Exchanges.” Although gender-transition surgeries are already prohibited under a current executive order, this bill would codify it into law.
We appreciate President Trump’s executive orders on this issue, but executive orders are susceptible to change when the next administration takes office. Codifying these policies into law is the only way to ensure they will remain long-term. Taxpayers should never be forced to support the mutilation of children or the ending of human life.
