Last week, the Ohio legislature passed a bill requiring public schools to teach the Success Sequence to 6-12 grade students. Research has shown that 97% of young people who follow the Success Sequence avoid poverty. The Sequence includes doing these things in this order: graduating high school, obtaining a full-time job, and getting married before having children. The legislature’s well-founded hope is that equipping young people in their state with this knowledge will help the next generation succeed.
The Success Sequence provides an incredible opportunity to help ensure young people understand what they need to do in order to thrive. In past sessions, our state legislators have had the opportunity to do something similar to Ohio, but the effort died. However, local school boards can and should add the proven Success Sequence to their curriculum.
