Today we celebrate Reformation Day. Over five-hundred years ago, Martin Luther, the father of the Reformation, nailed his ninety-five theses to the door of his church in Wittenberg, Germany, ultimately questioning any authority apart from God’s Word. His objections to the state church sparked a turning point in church history and the history of the world. Protestantism and freedom of thought emerged having a lasting influence on our founding fathers, whose love of freedom in all aspects of life, including religion, shaped the foundation of our nation.
Reformation Day is an excellent time to remember and share with others that God is the one who shapes the course of history and to thank Him for His mercy in establishing our nation. The freedoms we enjoy today come from the sincerely held belief of our founders that our rights come from God, not from man.
